All bonds have 3 parts:
- Indemnitor (cosigner): This is the person who signs the contract and promissory note, taking financial and legal responsibility for the bond. To qualify: the indemnitor must be at least 21 years old, on the job or in the same industry for a minimum of 2 to 3 years, must be a U.S. citizen, stable living situation, and are preferred to have a bank account or major credit card.
-Premium or fee: Generally 15% of the bond with a minimum charge of $50.00. Discounts MAY be given on large bonds if the full premium is paid at time of posting. Payment arrangements can be made... and will be arranged on a case by case basis. Most jails also have fees that need to be paid in cash at the time the bond is posted, these fees are NOT included and need to be paid prior to the bond being posted.
-Collateral is taken on every bond because a contract and promissory note is signed for every bond, and they are considered collateral. Additional collateral may be required depending on the amount of the bond and how well qualified the indemnitor is. Things used for collateral may be: real estate, cars, trucks, motorcycles, or anything of real value.
Once an indemnitor is qualified and they have the fee, we pick a convenient place to meet to do the paperwork, then the bond is posted immediately. Defendants are released 2 to 4 hours from the time of posting, depending on the jail.
-If the indemnitor (cosigner) is out of state: After a phone call to us, we will fax the necessary forms to you. If you don't have a fax machine, we can fax to a store or business close to you. Just provide the number to us. (At this time, we are unable to make the transaction online.) Fill out the forms completely, and fax back along with a copy of your valid I.D. and any other documentation we may ask for. The original forms that you sign must be mailed to our office within 24 hours.
We can take a credit card payment by faxing the authorization form back that we send to you. You can also wire the money through a service like Western Union.
